About The Position

Lead the Platform Power Distribution, Energy Storage and Emergency Power team for submarine new design at Newport News Shipbuilding. The role leads system- and component-level design of power distribution, energy storage systems—including batteries and supercapacitors—and emergency power generation and distribution, such as diesel or other systems. Work includes architecting and integrating AC/DC distribution networks, power conversion systems, and shore-power interfaces; developing and maintaining technical specifications, interface control documents, and energy management architectures; coordinating cross-discipline teams to address shock, vibration, EMI/EMC, and thermal-management constraints; and mentoring junior engineers while enforcing naval engineering standards such as MIL-STD-1399. The position also develops and manages schedules, cost estimates, and risk assessments for assigned energy-system work packages in alignment with program milestones. The position is full-time, first shift, and not eligible for telework. Travel may be required up to 10% of the time. No relocation assistance is available. U.S. citizenship is required; security clearance is not required to start.
