About The Position

The Merchandiser is responsible for making sure that the right products are at the right prices, on the online portal, for our programs. He/she is responsible for the development of mix product strategies to maximize sales and dollar margins. He/she is a true passionate for this industry and can make recommendations for the addition of certain products offered in the programs we offer for independent garages; to ensure our continuous competitiveness in the market. The Merchandiser is a pillar between sales, marketing and supply and he/she makes sure that the products we offer reach as much customers as possible while being profitable for the company.

Requirements

  • Your degree in sales, marketing or administration combined with your 5 years of experience in sales, marketing and independent activities makes you a real expert in the field.
  • You have a good understanding of the market and you master the principle of supply & demand, as well as price management;
  • You enjoy analyzing different situations and you are good at finding/selecting the best options.
  • You have a conceptual mind and a critical thinking approach that allows you to analyze the best practices.
  • You are not a fan of the status quo and you make the necessary adjustments, at all times, to ensure the products’ competitiveness on the market;
  • You understand the importance of attracting and retaining customers by providing unique and exclusive solutions by maintaining excellent business relationships.
  • Your strategic thinking allows you to capture business opportunities that are interesting for the company’s growth and helps you with your global vision of all the sales process aspects; from inventory to retail;
  • You know how to use different computer tools/software and you are in control of Web trends.
  • You understand the visual aspect importance and you know how to use the tools you have on-hand to help facilitate navigation on the portal.
  • Bilingual (French and English), with strong written and oral communication and executive-ready presentation skills.
  • Tailors message diverse audiences and manage complex or politically nuanced conversations with diplomacy, composure, and sound judgment.
  • Demonstrates strong political acumen, effectively framing trade-offs, risks, and recommendations for management, and navigating sensitive or complex situations with tact and professionalism.

Responsibilities

  • Develop product mix strategies to maximize sales and dollar margins for the channels for which he/she is responsible.
  • Select products in accordance with the category and brand strategies of the different banners (channels) of Groupe Touchette’s model by respecting strategic alliances and by promoting the development of controlled brands.
  • Participate and develop active SKU reduction strategies.
  • Negotiate with suppliers based on customer/consumer needs to conclude advantageous agreements.
  • Set sales prices (suggested detail) in accordance with the company’s overall strategy as well as strategies specific to each banner.
  • Participate in the development of various banners’ sales budgets, margins and inventory.
  • Select the products to be promoted and monitor surpluses, if any.
  • Analyze (on a daily basis) the many categories’ performances in order to determine the action plans;
  • Constantly analyze the categories trend and prepare for the rapid and efficient introduction of new products.
  • Participate in the development of supplier revenue budgets (COOP) and ensure their monitoring.
  • Participate in the development of monthly or seasonal merchandising guidelines for each banner;
  • Negotiate the best purchasing agreements with suppliers while seeking the best sales, value, quality and profitability potential, all of this while keeping in mind the context of the organization’s culture and strategies;
  • Negotiate purchases optimal conditions with suppliers according to each banner’s specific needs;
  • Ensure a clear and complete communication regarding the marketing plans and more specifically, the actions to be taken vis-à-vis the listed and delisted products (liquidations);
  • Participate in the planogram/product screen development (digital and physical);
  • Manage inventories;
  • Optimize distributor and retailer profit margins;
  • Manage his/her business unit staff/employees.
