Merchandise Sales Clerk - Part Time - San Diego Zoo Safari Park
About The Position
The Merchandise Sales Clerk works under supervision to sell merchandise and provide outstanding guest service while supporting San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance’s mission and vision of saving species worldwide. The role is based at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park in Escondido, California, and reports to Retail Management. It is an hourly, part-time, non-exempt union position; union fees and dues apply if selected. The position includes selling merchandise, renting and maintaining guest equipment, operating a point-of-sale system, handling transactions, maintaining displays and stock, and supporting promotions and upselling. The clerk also provides guest assistance, keeps prices current, and orders and tracks inventory as directed. An RBS Certificate and Food Handler’s Card are required within 30 days.
Requirements
- Obtain an RBS Certificate within 30 days.
- Obtain a Food Handler’s Card within 30 days.
- Understand merchandising methods and register practices.
- Have knowledge of merchandising background, history, and operations.
- Know zoo and Safari Park rules and regulations.
- Operate a cash register accurately and efficiently.
- Understand and carry out instructions.
- Communicate effectively with the public.
- Deal tactfully and courteously with others in a diverse environment.
- Proactively maintain appropriate stock levels.
- Provide outstanding guest service.
Responsibilities
- Sell merchandise and provide outstanding guest service, including greeting guests.
- Rent and maintain strollers, wheelchairs, ECVs, and other equipment.
- Suggest merchandise and participate in department promotions and upselling systems.
- Operate the point-of-sale system and accurately handle and tender a variety of sales transactions, including cash.
- Maintain stock levels and clean displays.
- Demonstrate understanding of a variety of merchandise types.
- Keep prices clearly posted and updated.
- Order items as necessary and maintain inventory as directed.
