About The Position

The Merchandise Manager supports store operations at Five Below by overseeing merchandise receiving, stocking, displays, promotions, and inventory-integrity processes. The role also helps direct store associates, supports their onboarding and training, drives sales, and controls expenses. When needed, the Merchandise Manager serves as Manager on Duty and takes responsibility for store operations, staff management, customer service, and urgent issues. The position requires a flexible schedule that may include day, evening, weekend, and overnight shifts, as well as travel when required. The starting rate is $15.00 per hour.

Requirements

High school graduate or equivalent.
Minimum of 2 years of management experience.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to multitask.
Creative thinking.
Ability to maintain composure under pressure.
Must be at least 18 years old and able to perform the essential job functions in compliance with applicable laws.
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including days, evenings, weekends, and potentially overnight shifts, and to travel as required.
Ability to identify and discern email and printed instructions about merchandise layouts, associate schedules, and standard operating procedures.
Frequently operate a cash register.
Frequently move merchandise weighing up to 25 pounds and place or remove merchandise at heights of 5 to 10 feet.
Frequently climb and descend ladders to retrieve and put away stock.
Frequently kneel, bend, twist, and stoop, including in the stock room and on the sales floor.
Frequently communicate and exchange accurate information with customers, managers, and coworkers, in person and by telephone.
Frequently move across the sales floor and between the sales floor and stock room to assist customers and retrieve or put away merchandise.
Remain in a stationary, upright position for 80% of the time.

Responsibilities

Oversee receiving, unpacking, and organizing new stock so items are efficiently placed on the sales floor.
Manage setup and maintenance of displays, signage, promotions, corporate-guideline resets, and seasonal updates.
Manage store opening and closing procedures, including securing cash, locking doors, setting alarms, and preparing for daily operations.
Act as Manager on Duty when needed, taking responsibility for store operations, staff management, customer service, and urgent issues.
Help oversee daily activities of store associates and ensure effective performance and excellent customer service.
Support associate onboarding and ongoing training in store policies, product knowledge, and operational procedures.
Drive sales and control expenses by optimizing merchandising, staff performance, and customer service.
Execute the market plan by arranging products and signage according to corporate guidelines and keeping promotional materials current.
Ensure execution of the company Inventory Integrity process.
