About The Position

The YWCA of Metropolitan St. Louis (YWCA) has been serving the community for over 120 years, providing essential services to women and families. Requirements

  • A working knowledge and understanding of early childhood development and education.
  • Knowledge of emergency procedures for young children.
  • Skills in providing feedback, mentoring and supporting teacher development in their learning process.
  • The ability to communicate effectively with families and including them in their child’s learning process.
  • Ability to lift up to 40lbs.
  • A high school diploma/GED and willing to obtain a CDA.

Responsibilities

  • Support and mentor new early childhood educators by modeling best practices, offering guidance, and encouraging reflective teaching.
  • Plan and implement developmentally appropriate learning opportunities that foster children’s social, emotional, cognitive, and physical growth.
  • Serve as a supportive and knowledgeable resource for parents.
  • Provide guidance to new or developing teachers.
  • Share best practices for classroom management, lesson planning and positive child interactions.
  • Communicate and model positive and effective interactions with children and families while promoting parental involvement.
  • Develop and implement developmentally appropriate activities daily based on the developmental level of each child.
  • Help teachers/apprentices develop skills and build confidence in their role and professional development goals.
  • Help identify areas of training and development needed for teachers/apprentices.
  • Conduct screenings and ongoing assessments of each child’s growth and development.
  • Use information to refer children with potential delays.
