About The Position

Gardner Health Services is recruiting for two (2) Mental Health Specialist (MHS) positions within the Family and Children's Division of the Behavioral Health Department. These full-time positions are based at the Gardner Health Services Corporate Office in San Jose, CA, and assigned to the First 5 program. The Family Resource Center, funded by First 5, focuses on strengthening family competencies in child development for children, parents, and caregivers. It offers free resources, educational activities, and parenting workshops for families with children under six, aiming to support and develop skills for success. The ideal candidate will have experience in providing psycho-social-behavioral services to children, adolescents, and their families, with strong attention to detail and documentation skills, and a commitment to community service.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a BA degree and up to three (3) years of experience OR an AA degree plus five (5) years of relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of principles of psychiatric, psycho-social and behavioral social work counseling and other related techniques.
  • Knowledge of community resources in designated areas.
  • Required knowledge of DSM IV.
  • Ability to apply casework skill effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to secure and record accurate and pertinent social personal data.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Effective problem solving skills.
  • Bilingual/bicultural skills (read, write and speak).

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual skills in English and Spanish are highly preferred.
  • Possession of or working towards a valid clinical license (e.g. Social Work Marriage or Family Child Counselor) issued by the State of California.
  • New hires must possess a State of California clinical license within four (4) years of completing post graduate work.
