About The Position

The Mental Health Assistant provides direct care to adolescents and adult patients with psychiatric disorders to ensure the safety and well-being of the patients. MHAs have the primary responsibility for ensuring the patient’s safety on the unit. MHAs are responsible for understanding and using the least restrictive interventions per facility policy and avoiding seclusion and restraint whenever possible. Assists and monitors patients with daily living activities. Assists and monitors patients at all times. Provides adequate staff supervision and escorts patients to and from the unit in a safe, orderly manner. Recognizes subtle deviation on patient’s affect, behavior and conversation, as well as changes in the patient’s physical condition and reports these to the Unit Nurse. Provides written rules and explains regulations to patients upon admission. Knows and can explain contents of patient handbook.

Requirements

• High school Graduate
• 1 to 3 years of experience
