About The Position

The Mental Health Aide assists the Staff Nurse and Therapists by providing delegated tasks on the nursing unit and helps maintain a clean and orderly work area. The role is based at the University of Toledo Health Science Campus Medical Center. The posted schedule is 6:00 p.m. to 6:30 a.m.; the position may rotate shifts and units and requires some weekend and holiday work.

Requirements

• High school graduate or GED equivalent.
• Attend and successfully complete the UTMC Healthcare Tech training course and maintain CPR/BLS certification, unless exempt under one of the listed qualifications.
• Ability to write legibly, speak articulately, and follow directions accurately.
• Ability to plan and organize work and work under supervision.
• Willingness to accept responsibility for patients in care when performing delegated functions.
• Ability to perform delegated duties according to established methods and procedures.
• Willingness to work some weekends and holidays.
• May be required to rotate shifts and units.
• Visual acuity of 20/20, corrected if needed, including color vision when applicable.
• Ability to hear, with or without aids, and orally communicate.
• Good manual dexterity.
• Ability to push, pull, roll, and transfer or lift 50 pounds occasionally.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, stoop, and kneel frequently.
• Ability to perform CPR.
• Complete required pre-employment drug and other health screenings for the position.

Nice To Haves

• A current CPR/BLS certification and successful completion of a State Approved CNA or STNA exam with active certification on the applicable state registry at the time of application, recent graduation from an accredited nursing program, or recent equivalent experience with a successful Skill Assessment may qualify a candidate to bypass the UTMC Healthcare Tech training course.
