About The Position

Prometheus Federal Services (PFS) is hiring a Mental Health Aide to provide day-to-day care and support to patients in the Domiciliary at the Sam Rayburn Memorial VAMC in Bonham, Texas. The position supports a rehabilitation treatment program for patients with alcohol and/or drug dependency and provides continuous supervision in a 24/7 care environment. The Health Aide observes patients, listens to their concerns, conducts rounds every two hours, and promptly reports changes in health or behavior to medical and clinical staff. The role also involves orienting patients to the treatment program, assisting with therapy and therapeutic or recreational activities, supporting patient intake and discharge, escorting patients, and maintaining a structured and safe environment. The aide documents care in the Electronic Health Record, follows VA and facility policies and infection-control standards, and protects patient confidentiality.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
Two years of study at an accredited college or university, junior college, or similar institution, including or supplemented by at least 12 semester hours in health sciences, nursing, behavioral science, social science, guidance, counseling, teaching, biological sciences, or a related field.
At least one year of direct patient-care experience performing therapeutic and supportive tasks in a rehabilitation treatment program.
Active BLS card.
Ability to speak, understand, read, and write English fluently.
Authorized to work in the United States indefinitely without sponsorship.
Ability to obtain public trust.
Ability to follow directions and prioritize patient-care needs within the Health Aide scope of practice.
Organizational and observational skills.

Responsibilities

Deliver day-to-day care and support services within the Domiciliary, contributing to continuous around-the-clock supervision.
Listen to patients’ concerns, observe their behavior, and promptly report changes in health or behavior to medical and clinical staff.
Round on patients every two hours.
Orient patients to the treatment program.
Observe patients for symptoms, behaviors, actions, reactions, and indications or contraindications to treatment.
Assist with individual, group, or behavior therapy sessions and provide supportive assistance to patients on maintenance therapy.
Lead therapeutic and recreational activities.
Assist with patient intake and discharge processes.
Monitor patients’ behavior and whereabouts to maintain a safe environment.
Escort patients throughout the facility and provide structure, supervision, and therapeutic engagement during recovery.
Promote a harmonious and cooperative working environment with coworkers and supervisors.
Follow North Texas Health Care System guidelines, VA policies, procedures, and professional standards of care.
Contact medical staff when patients experience fainting, convulsions, or illness.
Follow universal precautions and infection prevention and control guidelines; wear appropriate PPE, dispose of contaminated waste, and follow patient-isolation requirements.
Accession orders using a computer system.
Read and follow Standard Operating Procedures and the current Rehabilitation Treatment Program.
Communicate daily status and problems about laboratory output to team members and senior management of the service.
Occasionally serve as receptionist at the Bonham Domiciliary front desk, greeting and guiding patients, answering nontechnical questions, and referring technical questions to appropriate RRTP staff.
Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and VA policies.
Document care accurately in the Electronic Health Record.
Attend staff meetings as required by the VA facility Chief of Service, Nursing Executive, or designee.
Perform other duties as assigned.
