About The Position

The Mental Health Aide assists the Staff Nurse and Therapists by performing delegated tasks on the nursing unit and helps maintain a clean and orderly work area. The position is classified as full-time and is based at the University of Toledo Health Science Campus Medical Center. The posted salary is $17.60. The shift runs from 6:00 p.m. to 6:30 a.m.; the employee may float, rotate shifts and units, and work some weekends and holidays.

Requirements

• High school graduate or GED equivalent.
• Attend and successfully complete the UTMC Healthcare Tech training course and maintain CPR/BLS certification, unless eligible for an exemption.
• Candidates exempt from the training course must have current CPR/BLS certification and at least one of the following: active state registry certification after passing a State Approved CNA or STNA exam; recent graduation from an accredited nursing program; or recent equivalent experience and a passing result on the Skill Assessment.
• Ability to write legibly, speak articulately, and follow directions accurately.
• Ability to plan and organize work and work under supervision.
• Willingness to accept responsibility for patients in their care and perform delegated duties in accordance with established methods and procedures.
• Must be able to work some weekends and holidays and may be required to rotate shifts and units.
• Visual acuity of 20/20 or corrected to 20/20, including color vision when applicable.
• Ability to hear with or without aids and to communicate orally.
• Good manual dexterity.
• Ability to push, pull, roll, and transfer or lift 50 pounds occasionally.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, stoop, and kneel frequently.
• Ability to perform CPR.
• Must complete pre-employment drug and other required health screenings for the position.
