About The Position

Our Foundry Melt Technicians play a critical role in the cast iron manufacturing process by controlling the melt operation from furnace charging through molten iron transfer. In this hands-on role, you’ll work with electric induction furnaces to melt pig iron, steel, returns, and alloys while ensuring metal temperature and chemistry meet quality standards. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, has strong mechanical skills, and takes pride in producing high-quality products safely and efficiently.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
  • Basic math and computer skills, including familiarity with Windows-based software
  • Forklift certification required or ability to obtain certification
  • Ability to work safely in a hot, fast-paced manufacturing environment
  • Ability to use small hand tools and industrial equipment

Nice To Haves

  • Three to five years of related manufacturing or foundry experience preferred
  • Experience operating forklifts, bobcats, automated systems, or robotic equipment preferred
  • Experience with furnace operations or molten metal handling preferred
  • Walden system experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Operate overhead cranes to load scrap materials into storage hoppers
  • Utilize automated charge systems to weigh and prepare charge blends
  • Operate automated alloy systems to determine and add alloy materials to the melt process
  • Charge and operate induction furnaces throughout the full melt cycle
  • Monitor and obtain molten bath temperatures to ensure process quality
  • Remove slag from molten metal baths safely and efficiently
  • Obtain iron samples for quality assurance spectrometer testing
  • Transfer molten iron from furnace to transfer ladles for pouring operations
  • Perform repairs and maintenance on furnaces, shakers, magnets, and related equipment
  • Remove and replace furnace linings and complete relining repairs as needed
  • Perform top capping, sintering, cold starts, and related furnace maintenance activities
  • Repair, fabricate, and reline transfer ladles as needed
  • Maintain a clean work environment in accordance with 5L and safety guidelines
  • Assist with or perform all other job-related duties as assigned
