About The Position

Provide Medical Support Assistant services at Pawnee Indian Health Center. This role involves interviewing patients to obtain demographic and insurance information, assisting with form completion, determining patient eligibility for healthcare services according to IHS guidelines, and managing patient registration data. The Medical Support Assistant will also collect and copy third-party recipient health cards, explain billing processes to beneficiaries, and initiate or reactivate health records. All data entry and updates will be performed using the RPMS/BPRM Practice Management Suite. The position also includes performing other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Responsibilities

  • Interview patients to obtain pertinent patient registration information, i.e. demographic and insurance information and authorization to enable the FBO to bill for health care services provided.
  • Assist patients in completing new or updated forms for the RPMS/BPRM Practice Management Suite.
  • Determine eligibility of patients seeking health care by obtaining the certificate of Indian blood or other documentary proof of tribal membership according to IHS guidelines.
  • Identify those patients whose healthcare benefits are subject to prior approval to determine the extent of healthcare for outpatient services.
  • Obtain signatures for file on required form for alternate resources and purchased referred care prior to patients being seen in the clinics for billing purposes and/or PRC eligibility.
  • Maintain, key-enter, update and verify all alternate resources data necessary for patient registration and for accurate billing through the use of RPMS/BPRM Practice Management Suite.
  • Make corrections as necessary to improve the patient registration system.
  • Collect third party recipient health cards, obtain photocopies of the card and explain the program to the beneficiaries, i.e. why Medicare, Medicaid and/or private/commercial insurance will be billed for the services they receive at the IHS facility.
  • Interview patient to obtain information to initiate a new health record and/or communicate to Medical Records to reactivate a retired/stored record.
  • Enter all information in the RPMS/BPRM Practice management Suite.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor.
