Medical Scribe

About The Position

The Medical Scribe, known internally at Oak Street Health as a Clinical Informatics Specialist (CIS), supports primary care providers by documenting clinical encounters so providers can focus on patient care. The role follows the patient care journey, including morning huddles, real-time observation and documentation during visits, and follow-up after visits to support next steps. Scribes develop expertise in value-based care, chronic-condition documentation, ICD-10 and CPT coding, and use that knowledge to help providers identify and close care gaps. Extensive on-the-job training is provided in clinical workflows, value-based medicine, preventive care, documentation, population health data streams, and team-based care. The role is suited to candidates seeking practical paid clinical experience or careers in health informatics, public health, healthcare administration, medical coding, and related fields. Candidates are asked to commit at least one year, with two or more years ideal. This is a full-time, in-person clinic position, generally requiring approximately 40–45 hours per week during clinic hours, with predictable hours and break times.
