About The Position

At Oak Street Health, Medical Scribes, also called Clinical Informatics Specialists (CIS), support primary care providers as clinical documentation assistants. Each Scribe is paired with one provider and joins them in exam rooms and team huddles, as well as preparing post-visit summaries. The role helps ensure documentation is accurate, specific, and timely. Scribes receive extensive training in Oak Street Health’s value-based care model, ICD-10 and CPT coding, electronic medical records, and population health. Their work supports identifying and closing care gaps, chronic-condition prevention, and positive patient experiences. This is an immersive, paid position intended to provide substantial clinical exposure, particularly for people pursuing pre-medical or healthcare administration pathways. The role is not hands-on patient care. Candidates should be prepared to commit at least one year, with two or more years strongly preferred, because providers and patients rely on the Scribe partnership. The position is full-time and clinic-based, with approximately 40–45 hours per week and predictable hours and breaks.
