Medical Laboratory Scientist I
About The Position
Quest Diagnostics is recruiting a Medical Laboratory Scientist I for its Clinical Laboratory - Auto Chemistry department in Clifton, New Jersey. The position involves handling and processing specimens, performing clinical laboratory testing, reviewing and releasing results, and maintaining required records. The scientist follows laboratory procedures and applicable CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and safety guidelines, and addresses or escalates problems that could affect test performance or reporting. The listed schedule is Tuesday through Saturday, 1:00 AM to 9:30 AM. The pay range is $27.95 to $46.12 per hour. Employees may be eligible for a shift differential of 10% for some or all second-shift hours and 15% for some or all third-shift hours. Annual performance bonus compensation may also be available.
Requirements
- A BS in Medical Technology is preferred; alternatively, a BS/BA in Chemistry or Biology, an associate degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Technology, or prior qualification as a Technologist under 42 CFR 493 is listed.
- One year of clinical experience in high-complexity testing is preferred.

Responsibilities
- Follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting, and maintaining patient test-result records.
- Maintain records demonstrating that proficiency-testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens.
- Analyze specimens using approved testing procedures.
- Review and release test results.
- Follow CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and safety guidelines.
- Follow established laboratory policies and procedures when test systems are outside acceptable performance levels.
- Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance or result reporting, correct them, or immediately notify the senior technologist or supervisor.
