Medical Laboratory Scientist I
About The Position
Quest Diagnostics is recruiting a Medical Laboratory Scientist I for its Clinical Laboratory – Microbiology General department in Clifton, New Jersey. The role is scheduled Sunday through Thursday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM. The scientist performs laboratory testing and related specimen handling, result reporting, and recordkeeping in accordance with laboratory procedures and applicable standards. The stated pay range is $27.95–$46.12 per hour; offers depend on factors including skills, training, experience, education, certifications, and market and organizational considerations. Successful candidates may be eligible for annual performance bonus compensation.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology preferred; alternatively, a BS/BA in Chemistry or Biology, an associate degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Technology, or prior qualification as a Technologist under 42 CFR 493.
- One year of clinical experience in high-complexity testing preferred.

Responsibilities
- Follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting, and maintaining patient test-result records.
- Maintain records demonstrating that proficiency-testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens.
- Analyze specimens using approved testing procedures.
- Review and release test results.
- Follow CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and safety guidelines.
- Follow established laboratory policies and procedures when test systems are outside acceptable performance levels.
- Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance or result reporting, correct encountered problems, or immediately notify the senior technologist or supervisor.
