Medical Laboratory Scientist I
About The Position
Quest Diagnostics is recruiting a Medical Laboratory Scientist I for its Clinical Laboratory – Microbiology General department in Clifton, New Jersey. The role involves handling and processing specimens, performing high-complexity laboratory testing, reviewing and releasing results, maintaining records, and following applicable laboratory, regulatory, and safety procedures. The position is scheduled Tuesday through Saturday, 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM. The listed pay range is $27.95–$46.12 per hour. Employees may be eligible for shift differentials of 10% for some or all second-shift hours and 15% for some or all third-shift hours. Salary offers consider factors such as relevant skills, training, experience, education, certifications, market conditions, and organizational factors. Successful candidates may be eligible for annual performance bonus compensation.
Requirements
- A BS in Medical Technology is preferred; alternatively, a BS/BA in Chemistry or Biology, an associate degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Technology, or prior qualification as a Technologist under 42 CFR 493.
- One year of clinical experience in high-complexity testing is preferred.

Responsibilities
- Follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting, and maintaining patient test-result records.
- Maintain records demonstrating that proficiency-testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens.
- Analyze specimens using approved testing procedures.
- Review and release test results.
- Follow CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and safety guidelines.
- Follow established laboratory policies and procedures when test systems are outside acceptable performance levels.
- Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting; correct problems or immediately notify the senior technologist or supervisor.
