About The Position

The Medical Lab Scientist (MLS) performs routine tests on blood, tissues, and other body specimens and provides physicians with quality results using a variety of clinical laboratory equipment. The role requires a thorough understanding of patient safety and laboratory techniques to protect patient safety and anonymity. This position is in the Core Laboratory in Powdersville and is PRN, with a listed work shift of days/nights.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Laboratory Science, Biomedical Science, Biology, or Biochemistry through a CLIA-approved program.
• MLS Medical Lab Scientist certification, or eligibility for certification through a nationally recognized agency; ASCP is preferred.
• Ability to provide quality, error-free work in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to engage with staff and patients professionally.

Nice To Haves

• Completion of an externship program.
• Certification through ASCP is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform analytical tests on biological specimens in a timely, efficient, and accurate manner according to documented laboratory procedures.
• Determine specimen acceptability through visual inspections and recognition of abnormal or unusual results.
• Recognize factors that affect measurements and results and take appropriate action according to protocols.
• Perform quality control for all testing and meet established ranges before releasing patient results.
• Maintain a safe and efficient work environment by checking equipment, cleaning the work area, monitoring temperatures according to hospital policies, and troubleshooting laboratory equipment.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
