About The Position

The Medical Lab Scientist (MLS) performs routine tests on blood, tissues, and other body specimens and provides physicians with quality results using a variety of clinical laboratory equipment. The role requires understanding patient safety and laboratory techniques to protect patient safety and anonymity.

The position is in the Core Laboratory - Powdersville department and is scheduled for 40 hours per week on the night shift.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Laboratory Science, Biomedical Science, Biology, or Biochemistry through a CLIA-approved program.
• MLS Medical Lab Scientist certification, or eligibility for certification by a nationally recognized certification agency; ASCP is preferred.
• Ability to provide quality, error-free work in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to engage professionally with staff and patients.

• Completion of an externship program.

Responsibilities

• Perform analytical tests on biological specimens in a timely, efficient, and accurate manner, following documented laboratory procedures.
• Determine specimen acceptability through visual inspection or recognition of abnormal or unusual results.
• Recognize factors that affect measurements and results, and take appropriate action according to protocols.
• Perform quality control for all testing and meet established ranges before releasing patient results.
• Maintain a safe and efficient work environment by performing equipment checks, cleaning the work area, monitoring temperatures according to hospital policies, and troubleshooting laboratory equipment.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
