About The Position

As a Medical Laboratory Assistant, you will assist the Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) with routine specimen processing in accordance with protocols established by Ascend Clinical. You will process specimens, perform test preparation, specimen verification and tracking, related clerical functions, and general laboratory tasks. You will also help place specimens on automated instruments and work with laboratorians on documentation review and computer verification. Departments include Hematology, Preanalytics, Chemistry, Environmental, and Immunochemistry.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED required.
Background in chemistry, math, and medical terminology; knowledge of specimen preparation techniques and operating principles of common laboratory instruments.
Ability to perform repetitive work with a high degree of precision.
Ability to handle biological specimens safely.
Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate.

Nice To Haves

College education preferred.

Responsibilities

Follow Ascend Clinical policies and procedures, including those for blood-borne pathogens, chemical hazards, illness and injury prevention, and quality assurance; understand the hazards of not following them.
Organize and prioritize work for efficient large-batch processing.
Document clearly, concisely, and thoroughly, and ensure paperwork is completed properly during the shift.
Set up automated instruments.
Perform quality control procedures on instruments.
Perform routine testing on automated instruments.
Perform minor hardware troubleshooting on automated instruments.
Participate in the facility's Quality Assurance program.
Take responsibility for special projects as directed by Management.
