About The Position

TeamHealth is seeking a board-certified or board-eligible emergency medicine physician and/or medical director for a new freestanding emergency department (FSED) in Davenport, Florida. The facility will provide full-service emergency care to eastern Polk County and be affiliated with Winter Haven Hospital and BayCare Health System. The physician may work at both the Davenport FSED and Winter Haven Hospital. This is a full emergency department, not an urgent care center. Physicians will manage a broad range of emergency presentations using diagnostic, laboratory, and imaging services, with stabilization and hospital admission or transfer capabilities. The new FSED is projected to see 30,000 visits annually and will have 15 treatment rooms. Winter Haven Hospital's emergency department has 70,000 annual visits, 51 beds, a 14-bed observation unit, fast track, double physician coverage, and support across major specialty services. The hospital is a 468-bed facility and uses Cerner EMR. The opportunity includes 12-hour physician shifts, competitive compensation, and an available medical director leadership role. The physician may help establish the new department's culture, processes, and clinical standards. The position uses an independent contractor (1099) model. A $150,000 sign-on bonus is available for qualified candidates, along with an additional relocation bonus and paid professional liability insurance with tail coverage. Davenport offers convenient access to Orlando and Tampa, airports, beaches, lakes, parks, and outdoor recreation. Florida has no state income tax, and the area is described as having family-friendly communities and housing that is affordable compared with many Florida markets.

Requirements

Board-certified or board-eligible in emergency medicine through ABEM or AOBEM.
Emergency medicine residency training.
Strong clinical and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

Provide full-service emergency care and manage the full spectrum of emergency presentations.
Use available diagnostic, laboratory, and imaging capabilities to evaluate and treat patients.
Stabilize patients and arrange hospital admission or transfer when required.
Work at both the Davenport FSED and Winter Haven Hospital, as applicable.
As medical director, help build the new department's culture, processes, and clinical excellence.
