About The Position

Teledyne Brown Engineering is seeking a Medical Data Quality Analyst for its Medical Modeling and Simulation (MM&S) team, supporting the Naval Health Research Center (NHRC). The role provides subject matter expertise and conducts data management and analysis related to military medical systems, Prolonged Casualty Care (PCC), patient treatment protocols, and medical supplies. The MM&S team develops and supports modeling and simulation tools used for medical systems and logistics analysis, operational risk assessment, and theater medical course-of-action assessment across the Department of Defense. Its tools support casualty treatment and evacuation analysis, medical resource allocation, risk assessment, casualty estimation, and mission-readiness analysis. The analyst reviews, curates, validates, and maintains medical data used by MM&S software and translates approved patient treatment protocols into structured data, treatment profiles, decision logic, and supply requirements. The role also provides clinical, operational, and logistics expertise; investigates data anomalies; documents data lineage and standards; and supports multidisciplinary reviews and analysis. The position is remote, but the candidate must live within driving distance of NHRC in San Diego, California, for frequent and short-notice in-person meetings. Periodic travel to Huntsville, Alabama, or other locations for training, meetings, and conferences is required. Candidates must be U.S. citizens and possess or be able to obtain a DoD Security Clearance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a medical, clinical, health sciences, biomedical, nursing, emergency medicine, or closely related field.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience; military medical data management experience is preferred.
  • Experience working in military medical treatment environments, including deployed, expeditionary, or operational settings.
  • Demonstrated experience with Prolonged Casualty Care data, prolonged field care data, or equivalent clinical data involving extended treatment, delayed evacuation, and limited resources, including effects on patient physiological status.
  • Experience interpreting, applying, documenting, or maintaining patient treatment protocols, clinical practice guidelines, standing operating procedures, or standardized treatment pathways.
  • Experience connecting clinical treatment requirements to data elements such as interventions, medications, supplies, equipment, personnel, treatment duration, evacuation timing, and patient outcomes.
  • Experience reviewing medical data for quality, clinical validity, traceability, and fitness for analysis, modeling, simulation, or decision support.
  • Experience with patient care, trauma care, emergency medicine, critical care, combat casualty care, or expeditionary medicine.
  • Ability to communicate clinical and operational concepts to software engineers, system engineers, data specialists, modelers, logisticians, and government stakeholders.
  • Strong written communication, technical documentation, research, and analytical skills.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a DoD Security Clearance.
  • Must live within driving distance of NHRC in San Diego, California, and be able to support short-turn requests for face-to-face meetings there.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with Uniformed Services medical allowance standards and Defense Health Agency and Service-specific medical data systems.
  • Familiarity with Defense Logistics Agency data systems, including Medical Contingency Requirements Workflow (MCRW).
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel, relational databases, and data-query or data-quality tools.
  • Experience with medical research, clinical data analysis, operational medicine research, or health-data management.
  • Knowledge of data validation, quality control, configuration management, and documentation processes.
  • Experience with expeditionary medical planning, operations, logistics, casualty estimation, or patient movement.
  • Experience with triage procedures and treatment protocols for mass-casualty events.
  • Experience with medical readiness, manpower, supply, or logistics data systems.
  • Familiarity with MPTk, JMPT, EMedKW, or comparable medical modeling and simulation tools.
  • Ability to quickly learn new software tools, data structures, and clinical or operational domains.

Responsibilities

  • Review military medical data used within MM&S software for accuracy, completeness, consistency, and operational relevance.
  • Curate, analyze, and maintain Prolonged Casualty Care data, including treatment activities, timing and sequence of care, resource utilization, patient status, and outcomes in delayed-evacuation or resource-constrained environments.
  • Translate approved patient treatment protocols into structured data elements, treatment profiles, decision logic, and supply requirements for medical planning and simulation applications.
  • Update supply collections associated with patient treatment profiles and monitor changes to medical allowance standards and National Stock Number medical materiel.
  • Validate software outputs against source data, clinical expectations, operational assumptions, and documented treatment protocols.
  • Provide subject matter input on medical, clinical, operational, and logistics data used by modeling and simulation tools.
  • Conduct and support multidisciplinary reviews of datasets used for simulation models and expeditionary medical planning analyses.
  • Investigate data anomalies, document findings, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Review academic, clinical, and operational literature for relevant military medical data and changes to treatment practices.
  • Maintain metadata, data dictionaries, controlled vocabularies, data lineage, and standardized reporting formats.
  • Maintain data related to personnel, medical allowance standards, equipment sets, treatment capabilities, patient care, and expeditionary clinical operations.
  • Provide expertise on expeditionary medical treatment, patient care, patient outcomes, triage, and prolonged field care considerations.
  • Support frequent in-person meetings at NHRC in San Diego and periodic travel for training, meetings, and conferences.
