About The Position

The Medical Assistant works in the Outpatient department at UAB St. Vincent's Blount on a rotating-days schedule. Under the direction of a physician, the role assists with patient examinations and treatment, performs selected clinical duties, and supports basic administrative and materials-management functions. The position also helps maintain clean, orderly treatment and work areas. UAB St. Vincent’s is part of UAB Medicine and provides health care across Alabama through five hospitals and numerous clinics. Requirements

BLS Provider certification must be obtained within 30 days of hire or job transfer; American Heart Association or American Red Cross certification is accepted.
High school diploma equivalency or one year of applicable cumulative job-specific experience is required.
Required professional licensure or certification may be used in lieu of education or experience, if applicable.

Nice To Haves

Medical Assistant credential preferred.

Responsibilities

Assist with the examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a physician.
Assist with physician-ordered treatments under the supervision of a physician or registered nurse and perform selected clinical duties.
Interview patients, measure vital signs, and record information in patient charts.
Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations.
Perform basic clerical duties, including answering phones, maintaining records, and filing.
Order and stock supplies as part of basic materials-management functions.
Help maintain a clean and orderly environment.
