About The Position

The Medical Assistant works in the Outpatient Department at UAB St. Vincent’s Blount on a rotating-day schedule. Under the direction of a physician, the role assists with patient examinations and treatment, performs selected clinical duties, and supports the day-to-day operation of the clinical environment. The position also includes patient intake, basic clerical work, supply management, and keeping the environment clean and orderly.

Requirements

• BLS Provider certification obtained within 30 days of hire or job transfer; American Heart Association or American Red Cross certification is accepted.
• High school diploma equivalency or one year of applicable cumulative job-specific experience.
• Applicable professional licensure or certification may be used in lieu of education or experience, if applicable.

Nice To Haves

• Medical Assistant certification is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist with patient examinations and treatment under a physician’s direction.
• Assist with treatments ordered by a physician, as supervised by a physician or registered nurse.
• Perform select clinical duties.
• Interview patients, measure vital signs, and record information in patient charts.
• Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations.
• Perform basic clerical duties, including answering phones, maintaining records, and filing.
• Order and stock supplies.
• Help maintain a clean and orderly environment.
