About The Position

United Health Centers is recruiting Medical Assistants to work in one of its health centers. Experienced Medical Assistants and new graduates are welcome. The role provides technical support to providers and patient care for a diverse patient population. Medical Assistants are expected to communicate clearly and warmly, listen to patients, and contribute to a positive patient experience. The position works closely with the Nursing Supervisor and other clinic management team members to support patient flow and the organization’s mission of improving community access to health care. The stated starting hourly wage is $22; compensation depends on knowledge, skills, and experience.

Requirements

High school graduate or GED.
Completion of a Medical Assisting training program from an accredited college.
Valid CPR certificate.
Valid driver’s license.
Able to build and maintain rapport with patients and providers from differing backgrounds and work as a team player.
Customer-service orientation.
Strong computer skills; familiarity with modern office practices and procedures, including email, and intermediate computer skills.
Familiarity with adult learning and general training techniques.
Positive professional insight, flexibility, and dependability.
Demonstrated problem-solving skills and sound judgment.
Effective leadership and supervisory skills.
Attention to detail and excellent follow-through on work tasks.
Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
Able to lift up to 20 pounds and push up to 50 pounds on wheels.
Able to hear staff by phone and people served in person, and speak clearly to communicate with patients and staff.
Able to read memos, computer screens, personnel forms, and clinical and administrative documents.
High manual dexterity; able to reach above shoulder level and bend, squat, sit, stand, stoop, crouch, reach, kneel, and twist or turn.

Nice To Haves

Two years of experience in a healthcare setting.
Bilingual in English and Spanish.

Responsibilities

Provide prompt medical support and promote smooth patient flow.
Collect and record data accurately.
Maintain the order of examination rooms, equipment, and supplies.
Provide basic education and information to patients, answer questions, and help alleviate anxieties.
Interface with community-oriented activities and staff.
Help ensure patients and families receive the care they need when they need it.
Communicate consistently and openly with the supervisor and all staff.
Work flexible or extended hours when necessary.
Participate in health center in-services and meetings, listening to and respecting others’ ideas.
Abide by confidentiality rules.
