About The Position

New York Health (NYH) is hiring a Medical Assistant for its Urology team in Astoria, New York. The role supports patient care through intake, specimen collection and processing, vital-sign recording, examination preparation, and assistance to physicians during visits and office procedures. The Medical Assistant also sterilizes equipment, supports data entry, and performs EKGs and point-of-care testing. The schedule is five 8.5-hour shifts, Monday through Friday, between 7:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. The position requires travel to NYH locations as needed for patient care.

Requirements

• High school diploma.
• Knowledge of standard precautions and ability to use appropriate PPE when handling bloodborne pathogens and bodily fluids.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
• Reliable transportation to travel to NYH locations for patient care needs.
• Ability to sit at a desk and work on a computer for prolonged periods, and to stand, bend, and reach.

• Proficiency with an EMR system.

Responsibilities

• Manage patient intakes and accurately record information.
• Collect and process laboratory specimens, including venipuncture and diagnostic tests.
• Record patients’ vital signs.
• Prepare patients for examinations.
• Sterilize medical equipment and instruments.
• Assist providers and support staff with data entry.
• Assist physicians during visits, examinations, and office procedures.
• Perform EKGs and point-of-care testing.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
