About The Position

The Medical Assistant supports the physician’s practice at Scripps Clinic Torrey Pines in Orthopedic Surgery. This is a full-time benefitted resource position, working Monday through Friday in 8-hour shifts. Shift times may vary based on clinic operational needs, with start times as early as 7:00 AM and end times as late as 5:00 PM. The clinic sees an average of 40–50 patients per day. The role is predominantly back-office, with front-office duties handled as needed, and offers opportunities for growth and learning.

Requirements

Completion of a formal Medical Assistant program, Medical Assistant certification, or at least two years of experience as a military corpsman.
BLS certification for the Healthcare Provider from the American Heart Association (AHA).

Nice To Haves

One year of experience as a Medical Assistant in an outpatient setting.
Previous experience in Orthopedic Surgery.

Responsibilities

Room patients and check vital signs.
Assist with procedures and clinic preparation, including provider-specific protocols.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe environment.
Organize and perform patient care services that support the physician’s practice.
Relay physician instructions to patients or authorized persons.
Collect patient data in person and by phone.
Document patient concerns, messages, and care provided in the electronic medical record for physician review.
Administer medications specifically directed by the physician.
Schedule appointments and procedures.
Take complete and accurate messages and route them to the appropriate area for direction.
Enter orders and referrals.
Obtain pre-certifications.
Set up cases in EPIC.
Perform basic registration and update demographics.
Help with front-office duties as needed.
