About The Position

The Medical Assistant supports the physician’s practice at the Torrey Pines Sleep Center. The role includes patient rooming, vital-sign checks, assistance with procedures, clinic preparation using provider-specific protocols, and other patient-care services. The Medical Assistant communicates physician instructions to patients or authorized individuals, collects patient data in person and by phone, and documents patient concerns, messages, and care provided in the electronic medical record for physician review. Additional duties include administering medications as specifically directed by the physician, scheduling appointments and procedures, routing messages, entering orders and referrals, obtaining pre-certifications, setting up cases in EPIC, and completing basic registration and demographic updates. The position is benefited and full-time, generally Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with no nights, weekends, or holidays. It is located at Scripps Clinic Torrey Pines in La Jolla.

Requirements

Completion of a formal Medical Assistant Program, or a Medical Assistant Certification, or a minimum of two years of experience as a military corpsman.
BLS certification for the Healthcare Provider by the American Heart Association (AHA).

Nice To Haves

One year of experience working as a Medical Assistant.
Sleep Center experience.
Experience scheduling appointments and working in an MA back office.

Responsibilities

Organize and perform patient-care services that support the physician’s practice.
Relay physician instructions to patients or authorized individuals.
Collect patient data in person and by phone.
Document patient concerns, messages, and care provided in the electronic medical record for physician review.
Administer medications specifically directed by the physician.
Schedule appointments and procedures.
Take complete and accurate messages and route them to the appropriate area for direction.
Enter orders and referrals and obtain pre-certifications.
Set up cases in EPIC and complete basic registration and demographic updates.
