About The Position

The Medical Assistant performs routine clinical and administrative duties in support of the assigned area or office. Under the supervision of a physician or nurse, the Medical Assistant assists with patient assessments and treatments. This is an in-person position at Galax Family Care Center in Galax, Virginia, scheduled for 32 hours per week on days that vary between Monday and Friday.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Graduation from an accredited medical assistant program or equivalent.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification obtained within 60 days of hire.
• One of the following certifications: CCMA, CMA, or RMA.
• Critical thinking skills and decisive judgment.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Ability to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Responsibilities

• Perform basic diagnostic procedures and collect specimens.
• Monitor and communicate changes in patient condition.
• Document patient care provided.
• Maintain equipment and medical supplies, including reordering, stocking, cleaning, and troubleshooting.
• Maintain examination areas.
• Perform assigned administrative or clerical duties, including filing, reception, scheduling, data entry, and patient registration.
• Assist with patient assessments and treatments under the supervision of a physician or nurse.
