About The Position

The Medical Assistant – Clinical Support position plays a critical role in supporting the health and wellbeing of students, faculty and staff. This position provides an essential role for our patients care by collecting vital signs, collecting lab specimens via venipuncture, administering vaccines, assisting medical providers with patient care/procedures, and responding to medical emergencies as part of the emergency response team. Also performs vital duties with EKGs, lab testing procedures, medication dispensing, and taking X-rays.

Requirements

  • Previous experience as a certified Medical Assistant (MA), certified Radiology Technologist (RT), certified Phlebotomist or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
  • Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds, stoop, bend, be able to physically move patients if needed and perform CPR.

Responsibilities

  • Screen patients, perform laboratory functions, dispense medication from outlet, special procedures and other clinical duties as assigned.
  • Document all patient care using electronic medical records system.
  • Record current medications, labs, procedures and patient history including immunization and insurance records using electronic records system.
  • Communicate patient requests and follow up actions with health care staff utilizing electronic task manager.
  • Review health records/immunizations and recommend action based on clinical protocol, CDC, ACIP, HIPAA and State of Colorado Statute.
  • Administer vaccine, collect vital signs, collect lab specimens, render emergency treatment based on scope of practice under clinical protocol and in consultation with a precepting medical provider.
  • Assist medical providers with patient care, performing intakes, including performing a variety of clinical services.
  • Respond to campus emergencies as part of the emergency response team.
  • Perform EKG’s, lab testing procedures, medication dispensing, patient education and triage of clinical needs.
  • Take X-rays within their scope of practice.
  • Provide patient education in person and over the telephone.
  • Schedule appointments.
  • Interface with patients on behalf of the medical providers relaying a variety of clinical content as requested.
  • Maintain equipment to high standards to ensure patient safety.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to all students, faculty and staff of the Auraria Campus.
  • Provide support for Auraria Immunizations and when back up is needed in other areas of the Health Center.
