The Medical Assistant is a patient-facing member of the care delivery team in the Diabetes & Endocrinology Center. Under the direction of and in assistance to a Registered Nurse, this role provides delegated direct patient-care interventions, including sterile and non-sterile procedures. The Medical Assistant helps maintain a safe environment, completes assigned work, monitors patients for changes in condition and reports changes to the RN, and documents completed work and pertinent observations. The role uses office-based skills to support providers and nursing staff, maintain efficient workflows, and deliver safe, quality, patient-centered care focused on continuity and satisfaction. Independent clinical decision-making is outside the scope of the position; clinical questions must be referred to a provider or nurse. The position is full-time, on-site, and works 40 hours per week on the first/day shift, with shifts of less than 12 hours. It has no supervisory or budget responsibility. The delivery of professional nursing care at Stormont Vail Health is guided by Jean Watson's Theory of Human Caring and the theory of Shared Governance, in alignment with the organization's mission, vision, and values.
