About The Position

NextCare Urgent Care is seeking an energetic, customer-friendly Medical Assistant who enjoys a fast-paced setting and working as part of a team. The role supports patient care and clinic operations, with employees cross-trained and assigned to front-office or back-office functions—or both—according to clinic staffing and business needs. In the back office, the Medical Assistant assists providers with examinations, vital signs, procedures, medication administration, and other direct patient-care processes under provider supervision and within the Medical Assistant scope of practice. Duties may also include blood draws, urine collection, splinting and casting, physicals, ear lavage, wound care, and oxygen administration. The role follows medication safety protocols, reports unusual patient occurrences and safety concerns, follows laboratory and clinical accreditation requirements, and uses EMR/EHR systems. Additional laboratory responsibilities may include moderate-complexity testing in authorized disciplines; instrument calibration and quality-control documentation; maintaining inspection-ready records; completing competency assessments and proficiency testing; specimen accessioning and processing; accurate data entry into the Laboratory Information System; and prompt notification of critical results to the attending Texas healthcare provider. When assigned to the front office, the Medical Assistant helps keep patients and families informed about wait times, monitors patient flow, and processes discharges, including preparing charges, collecting payments, obtaining signatures, and issuing receipts. The position helps ensure respectful, dignified patient service and smooth clinic and reception operations. Education and qualification pathways differ by state. In Arizona, applicants need a high school diploma or equivalent and either an approved accredited Medical Assistant training program, or an unapproved program plus a national certification from AAMA, AMT, or NHA. In other states, applicants need a high school diploma or GED and may qualify through an approved accredited program; an unapproved program plus one of the listed national certifications; an unapproved program plus at least one year of post-completion Medical Assistant employment; or verifiable work experience directly supervised by a provider or physician group for at least 2,000 hours or one year. Other education or experience may be considered with Compliance and Regulatory department approval. The employer may request a diploma, and official transcripts if education cannot be verified through pre-employment screening.
