About The Position

The Medical Assistant works in the Cardiology Specialists of Birmingham department at UAB St. Vincent's Birmingham. Under a physician’s direction, the role assists with patient examinations and treatment and carries out selected clinical duties. The position also includes patient interviewing, vital-sign measurement, and chart documentation; preparing examination rooms; basic clerical work; ordering and stocking supplies; and helping maintain a clean, orderly environment. Travel to satellite offices is required. The schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Eligible positions may include generous paid time off, paid parental leave, an Associate Assistance Program, and a Tuition Reimbursement Program. Requirements

High school diploma equivalency or one year of applicable cumulative job-specific experience.
BLS Provider certification obtained within 30 days of hire or job transfer; American Heart Association or American Red Cross certification is accepted.

Responsibilities

Assist with patient examinations and treatment under the direction of a physician.
Assist with treatments ordered by a physician, supervised by a physician or registered nurse, and perform selected clinical duties.
Interview patients, measure vital signs, and record information in patient charts.
Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations.
Perform basic clerical duties, including answering phones, maintaining records, and filing.
Order and stock supplies and assist with other basic materials management functions.
Help maintain a clean and orderly environment.
