About The Position

Sun River Health is seeking a Full-Time Medical Assistant/Patient Representative to support our Peekskill location. This role involves assisting patients and professional staff within an assigned unit or community site, supporting medical care as directed by nursing and medical staff. The position requires performing job duties in compliance with systems and job-specific standards, and any additional assigned duties. The Medical Assistant/Patient Representative is responsible for providing patient-centered care, facilitating access to services in a pleasant, knowledgeable, and efficient manner, and communicating with a diverse population using strong interpersonal skills. This staff member will manage all aspects of patient registration and appointment scheduling, playing an integral role in the medical care team as the initial point of contact for patients seeking care.

Requirements

  • High School diploma/GED
  • National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA)

Responsibilities

  • Takes vital signs, vision, and/or hearing tests.
  • Records patient data in eCW, including laboratory results, pain level, PEAS, PhQ, Smoke status, etc.
  • Documents the reason for the visit and ensures CVRs are completed as needed.
  • Performs in-house labs and collects specimens for outside labs (e.g., Pap, cultures).
  • Performs quality control in accordance with organizational protocols.
  • Prepares exam rooms and necessary equipment.
  • Assists and chaperones during patient examinations and treatments.
  • Maintains stocked and orderly clinical areas.
  • Ensures all dated materials are current and disposes of outdated supplies.
  • Cleans and sterilizes all equipment and logs each service.
  • Performs basic clerical work in the service area, answers phones appropriately, and communicates problems/concerns to the nurse.
  • Handles telephone inquiries.
  • Ensures all appropriate logs are maintained.
  • Facilitates patient care within different departments of SRH and outside agencies.
  • Verifies all insurance and sets fees based on the sliding scale fee.
  • Consults with medical staff to link patients to services through ancillaries such as translation, transportation assistance, and application assistance.
  • Responsible for telephone and mail contact with patients.
  • Assists with daily reception activities and ensures all processes for patient services are initiated.
  • Provides basic instruction/health education to clarify provider instructions, procedures, and referral needs.
