About The Position

Tennessee Oncology, a prominent community-based cancer care specialist, is seeking a talented and highly-motivated Medical Assistant (Float) to provide high-quality clinical and administrative support to a variety of surgical specialties. This role requires flexibility to travel between multiple clinic locations based on staffing needs. The MA Float ensures efficient patient flow, accurate documentation, and supports providers in delivering excellent patient care across diverse clinical environments. The mission of Tennessee Oncology is to provide access to high-quality cancer care and the expertise of clinical research for all patients, at convenient locations within their community and close to their home.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED required.
Current BLS certification required or must be obtained within three months of hire.
Minimum of 2 years of experience in a clinical setting.
Strong communication, organizational, and multitasking skills.
Ability to work independently and adapt to changing environments.
Proficiency in EMR systems and basic computer skills.

Nice To Haves

Completion of a Medical Assistant training program and/or certification (CMA, RMA, or CCMA) is preferred.
Multi-specialty experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Prepares exam rooms and patients for visits, procedures, and minor surgeries across multiple specialties.
Records patient vital signs, medical history, and reason for visit accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR).
Provides clinical support during in-office procedures, including wound care, suture/staple removal, dressing changes, injections, and other patient care activities as directed by the provider.
Coordinates patient care including scheduling follow-up appointments, diagnostic tests, and referrals.
Provides patient education and instructions as directed by the provider, tailored to each specialty’s needs.
Maintains inventory of medical supplies and ensures proper sterilization and cleanliness of equipment and exam rooms.
Performs administrative duties such as answering phones, managing messages, and processing paperwork related to patient care.
Travels to various clinic locations to provide coverage as assigned, sometimes on short notice.
Adapts quickly to different workflows and provider preferences across specialties, while consistently utilizing the organization’s standardized electronic medical record (EMR) system.
Ensures compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, and infection control standards.
Collaborates with physicians, nurses, and other clinical staff to support coordinated and efficient patient care.
Assists in onboarding and training new staff when needed.
Performs other duties as assigned.
