About The Position

Harborview - Robert Clewis Clinic - Needle Exchange Program has an outstanding opportunity for a Medical Assistant - Certified (MA-C). This is a part-time position, 50% FTE (20 hours per week), with work scheduled for Monday afternoons, Wednesdays, and Fridays all day. The Robert Clewis Clinic is part of a multi-agency center providing comprehensive services to homeless and vulnerable housed people, including those using the sobering shelter. It offers low-barrier access to medical, mental health, chemical dependency, and case management services. The clinic provides low-cost medical services such as abscess treatment, HIV/hepatitis testing and counseling, vaccinations, cold and respiratory infection care, TB screening, access to treatment, reproductive health services, and Narcan availability. Requirements

  • Completion of a Medical Assistant course accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) or other recognized regional or national accreditation board OR equivalent
  • Must be Washington State Medical Assistant-Certified or achieve this designation within 6-months of hire. Failure to achieve and/or maintain this designation will result in termination of employment
  • Valid American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider CPR card

Responsibilities

  • Room patients, take vital signs, and reconcile records
  • Wound care and phlebotomy
  • Perform injections
  • Prepare and clean exam rooms
  • Submit medication prior authorizations
  • Recognize symptoms of common medical illnesses and accurately report to provider
  • Act as a liaison between patient, patient’s family and providers
  • Assist provider with procedures and medical exams
  • Perform point of care testing and report abnormal laboratory values
  • Assist in transporting patients as required
