About The Position
Harborview - Burn and Plastic Surgery has an outstanding opportunity for a Medical Assistant - Certified (MA-C). The Burn and Plastic Surgery Clinics at Harborview Medical Center offer outpatient care for adults and children with small acute burns and other acute and chronic wounds, as well as plastic reconstructive injuries. We treat a variety of conditions, including traumatic injuries to the face and jaw, skin disorders with skin loss, lacerations, pressure sores, ulcers, keloids, congenital defects, skin tumors, nerve/tendon injuries and amputations. Patients receive wound care, dressing changes and outpatient physical therapy, including scar control. Our care team includes board-certified burn surgeons, plastic surgeons, registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, clinical psychologists, social workers and other medical professionals.
Requirements
- Completion of a Medical Assistant course accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) or other recognized regional or national accreditation board OR equivalent
- Must be Washington State Medical Assistant-Certified or achieve this designation within 6-months of hire. Failure to achieve and/or maintain this designation will result in termination of employment
- Valid American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider CPR card
Responsibilities
- Room patients, take vital signs, and reconcile records
- Perform injections
- Prepare and clean exam rooms
- Submit medication prior authorizations
- Recognize symptoms of common medical illnesses and accurately report to provider
- Act as a liaison between patient, patient’s family and providers
- Assist provider with procedures and medical exams
- Perform point of care testing and report abnormal laboratory values
- Assist in transporting patients as required
