About The Position

Illinois Medi-Car has immediate openings for full-time drivers who transport wheelchair-bound individuals to healthcare facilities, hospitals, testing laboratories, and other destinations. Drivers provide appropriate care according to their training, ensure safe and efficient transportation, complete billing documentation, and maintain their vehicle in sanitary and operational condition. The role requires moving wheelchairs up and down stairs and into and out of the Medi-Car. Compensation is $17.95–$20.00 per hour, with rates based on years of experience and full-time scheduled templates. Superior Ambulance Service began in 1959 and has grown from one ambulance to the Midwest’s largest independent, locally owned and operated emergency medical services provider. The company employs more than 4,000 licensed EMTs, Paramedics, and Nurses, and operates more than 800 ambulances across Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, and Wisconsin. It also provides critical care, helicopter, and fixed-wing emergency medical transportation.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Successfully pass the company's required lifting test and map test, and successfully complete the interview process.
Functional communication and writing skills in English.
Valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record.
Ability to safely operate a vehicle in daytime, nighttime, and inclement weather conditions.

Responsibilities

Demonstrate the skills required of a Medi-Car Driver, including moving a wheelchair up and down stairs and in and out of the Medi-Car.
Provide appropriate patient care as stipulated in Medi-Car Driver training.
Provide safe and expedient transportation, including accurately reading maps and identifying street names, house numbers, and business addresses.
Provide appropriate documentation for billing information.
Keep the vehicle sanitary, monitor fluid levels and gauges, and immediately report mechanical problems.
