Hatch is currently seeking a Mechatronics or Mechanical Engineering Technologist Student for 4-12 months internship in our Technologies - Projects & Engineering Group, located at our Mississauga head office, starting September 2026. The Projects & Engineering Group at Hatch provides specialized design of a broad range of custom and proprietary technologies primarily in the mining & metals sector.

Requirements

  • Are in their 3rd or 4th year of College study in Mechatronics or Mechanical Engineering Technology.
  • Demonstrate strong academic performance.
  • Possess good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Have an aptitude for working on multi-disciplinary teams.

  • Good understanding of engineering and business fundamentals as they apply to engineering problems and projects.

Responsibilities

  • Under the guidance of experienced engineers and designers, students will participate in the design aspects of custom equipment and new product development.
  • Students will be required to directly apply and develop knowledge in mechanical design which may include: Modelling and Design with Solid Modelling tools.
  • Perform finite element analysis on various components and systems, including thermal analysis of cooling system elements.
  • Co-ordinate designs with a multi-disciplinary team including structural, mechanical, electrical, process, and instrumentation and controls.
  • Contribute to the design and improvement of various types of mechanical equipment and technologies.
  • Perform calculations for a variety of mechanical systems including machinery components, hydraulic systems, and cooling water systems.
  • Develop prototypes.
  • Become familiar in reviewing fabrication and construction drawings.
  • Improve their technical communication and report writing skills.
