About The Position

Hatch is currently seeking a Mechanical Engineering Student for our Technologies Group, located in our Mississauga head office, for a 4-month co-op position starting in September 2026. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to complex projects, gain relevant experience in an office environment, and collaborate with diverse teams. The position is within the Technologies team, which commercializes and delivers technologies across Hatch's Metals, Energy, and Infrastructure sectors, focusing on custom and specialized engineering for novel solutions and technologies. Requirements

  • Must be in third or fourth year of a Mechanical Engineering program at an accredited university
  • Demonstrate strong academic performance
  • Possess good communication and interpersonal skills

Responsibilities

  • Directly apply and develop knowledge in mechanical design
  • Perform finite element analysis on various furnace components and systems, including thermal analysis of cooling system elements
  • Co-ordinate designs with a multi-disciplinary team including structural, mechanical, electrical, process, and instrumentation and controls
  • Contribute to the design and improvement of various types of mechanical equipment and technologies, including copper coolers, electrode columns and furnace sealing equipment
  • Perform calculations for a variety of mechanical systems including machinery components, hydraulic systems, and cooling water systems
  • Become familiar in reviewing fabrication and construction drawings
  • Improve technical communication and report writing skills
