This position will work primarily on the Institute of Advanced Medical Isotopes (IAMI) however it will involve a diverse scope including HVAC and nuclear ventilation systems, hydronic systems, fume hoods, hot cells as well as working with our existing building automation system (BAS) and work management systems.

Requirements

  • Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology (or related)
  • 7+ years’ experience
  • Designing, commissioning, and maintaining HVAC, hydronic, and critical mechanical systems
  • SolidWorks, DraftSight experience
  • Familiar with HVAC/BAS and DDC controls
  • Professional advanced level technical knowledge and skills related to mechanical systems
  • Experience with CAD software (SolidWorks, DraftSight)
  • Demonstrated experience commissioning mechanical systems
  • Practical hands-on experience maintaining mechanical systems
  • Experience with the design, operation, and maintenance of conventional HVAC, hydronic, compressed air, water conditioning, and other mechanical systems
  • Demonstrated ability to oversee work, including the ability to select the appropriate means and methods necessary to complete complex building maintenance tasks and to continuously assess and mitigate hazards
  • Experience with, and understanding of, building control systems, and PLC controls
  • Proven technical documentation skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills, sound engineering judgment, attention to detail, and prioritization
  • Demonstrated ability to work well in a team
  • Experience with nuclear ventilation, water treatment and/or radioactive water systems is required
  • A diploma in mechanical engineering technology or a similar diploma from a technical institute.
  • At least 7 years of experience in a technical role after diploma, with several years working with mechanical systems.
  • Applicants must be legally able to work in Canada on a permanent basis (Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident).

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and lead mechanical system maintenance, commissioning and troubleshooting tasks
  • Design mechanical infrastructure changes of cooling water systems, HVAC/BAS systems, and nuclear ventilation
  • Maintain construction deficiency logs, requests for warranty services, and commissioning updates
  • Develop preventative maintenance programs to meet regulatory and asset health requirements in collaboration with multiple stakeholders
  • Lead continuous improvement projects such as equipment standardization, producing work instructions, and safety initiatives
  • Develop strategies for direct digital control (DDC) systems
  • Develop and review design standards for use in existing and new mechanical systems
  • Turn user needs for additions/changes to systems into implementable requirements and designs
