About The Position

Narda-MITEQ is seeking a motivated Mechanical Designer Intern to support its engineering team in the design, documentation, and development of mechanical components and assemblies. The intern will assist with creating and updating 2D drawings and 3D models using Computer Aided Design (CAD) software, gaining hands-on experience in product development, manufacturing, and engineering documentation. Narda-MITEQ designs and manufactures a wide range of standard active and passive components, as well as custom subsystems and integrated microwave assemblies for land, sea, air, and space applications. Requirements

  • Currently pursuing an Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Industrial Design, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Coursework or experience using 3D or 2D computer aided design (CAD) software.
  • Basic ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and within a collaborative engineering team.

Nice To Haves

  • Basic understanding of manufacturing processes including machining, fabrication, and assembly.
  • Experience using Autodesk Inventor or similar 3D CAD software.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Willingness to learn new engineering software and design methods.
  • Team-oriented with a positive attitude.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Familiarity with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing).
  • Familiarity with ASME Y14.5 drafting standards.
  • Familiarity with sheet metal and machined part design.
  • Familiarity with mechanical assemblies and fasteners.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Familiarity with PDM/PLM systems such as Autodesk Vault or SOLIDWORKS PDM.

Responsibilities

  • Create and modify 2D engineering drawings using Autodesk AutoCAD.
  • Develop 3D models and assemblies using Autodesk Inventor.
  • Work with the Engineering Team to generate detailed manufacturing drawings, Bills of Materials (BOMs), and assembly documentation.
  • Update existing CAD models and drawings to reflect engineering change notifications (ECNs).
  • Ensure drawings comply with company drafting standards, GD&T practices, and manufacturing requirements.
  • Organize and maintain CAD files and engineering documentation using a Product Data Management (PDM) system when applicable.
  • Support other engineering and design activities as assigned.
