This role involves assisting a Fulltime Mechanical Engineer to provide mechanical engineering expertise in various areas such as mechanical design, hydraulics, drivetrains, motors, simulation analysis, or engineering testing procedures. The intern will assist in the design and development of innovative forklifts and material handling equipment.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good analytical skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Must have a reliable means of transportation.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Not eligible for sponsorship for work authorization.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting a Fulltime Mechanical Engineer to provide mechanical engineering expertise in the area of mechanical design, hydraulics, drivetrains, motors, simulation analysis, or engineering testing procedures.
  • Assist in the design and development of innovative forklifts and material handling equipment, focusing on one of the following: Mechanical Design, Hydraulics, Drivetrains, Motors, Simulation Analysis, or Testing Procedures.
  • Create layouts of proposed designs ensuring functionality, safety, reliability, serviceability, manufacturability, cost-effectiveness, and aesthetic/ergonomic correctness.
  • Select appropriate materials, organize bill of materials data, and approve detail drawings.
  • Propose hydraulic systems to satisfy vehicle performance and reliability goals, develop specifications, design systems, and specify components.
  • Oversee design activities necessary to develop, prototype, and launch an approved hydraulic system and components.
  • Introduce alternate drivetrain concepts to meet definitions or specifications.
  • Perform analysis of proposed gear drives, including gears, bearings, shafts, and housings for various operating conditions.
  • Research new motor designs, materials, and components, as well as manufacturing processes.
  • Provide cost estimates for projects and write design documentation.
  • Perform structural or stability analysis of proposed or existing product, structure, or component designs.
  • Analyze failed structures or components to determine probable causes of failure.
  • Perform basic load and stress calculations and perform analysis using finite element analysis and fatigue life prediction tools.
  • Identify commonly used concepts, methods, and procedures for the detailed development and analysis of experimental and standardized tests for new and modified products or components.
  • Devise and apply validation procedures for components and systems under development.
  • Evaluate new components and technologies.
