2027 Summer Mechanical Engineer Intern - BS or MS (Austin, TX)
About The Position
Applied Materials’ Austin Engineering Department is seeking a Mechanical Engineer intern for summer 2027. The intern will join a research and rapid development group that designs, procures, tests, and iterates prototype parts alongside physicists, electrical engineers, and software experts. The internship runs from Monday, May 17, 2027, through Friday, August 6, 2027, in Austin, Texas. The position includes CAD modeling, mechanical design and finite element analysis (FEA), supplier collaboration on rapid prototyping and manufacturing methods, and designing experiments to test prototype assemblies and improve designs. Travel is 10% of the time, and relocation is eligible.
Requirements
- Be pursuing a Bachelor's or Master’s degree program in Mechanical Engineering.
- Be in good academic standing at the university.
- Be a quick learner.
Nice To Haves
- GPA of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale.
- Experience in semiconductor processing or manufacturing.
Responsibilities
- Create CAD models using Creo or Solidworks.
- Perform mechanical design and FEA of components.
- Work with suppliers on rapid prototyping and identifying effective manufacturing methods.
- Design experiments to test prototype assemblies and iterate on and improve designs.
