Mechanical Engineer III (QVS)

FujifilmBothell, WA
$95,000 - $120,000

About The Position

As a Mechanical Engineer III, you will solve mechanical design issues to improve the quality of complex ultrasound systems, establishing, and implementing innovative modifications of existing designs to reduce costs while still maintaining quality. This involves creating and modifying complex parts and assemblies using SolidWorks, simulation and analysis of various design alternatives using simulation packages (thermal and stress), rapid prototyping, first articles testing, developing, and executing the qualification plans, reporting results in formal documents. Understanding strain/stress issues on printed circuit boards that house RoHS-compliant components are required. Must be able to interface with the EE engineers, system engineers, industrial design engineers, FFSS’s supply chain and suppliers to make sure that all aspects of the modified designs are considered. Work closely with Sr. Mechanical Engineers and Production Engineers to solve manufacturing and design issues. Previous experience working with FDA-regulated products is highly desired. Contributing to the establishment and maintenance of the project schedules is also a part of the QVS ME engineer’s responsibilities.

Requirements

  • BS in mechanical engineering from an accredited institute.
  • 4-6 years’ experience in mechanical design working with injection-molded plastics, magnesium and aluminum die-casting, aluminum extrusions, sheet metal, thermal management and EMI / RFI shielding.
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks software.
  • Understand strain/stress issues on printed circuit boards on which RoHS-compliant components are installed.
  • Experience in 3D drawings generation, review and able to modify the drawings to solve quality issues.
  • Experience in thermal analysis and solutions to solve thermal issues.
  • Experience in stress analysis and solutions to solve stress issues.
  • Knowledge of plastic and metal tooling to be able to evaluate suppliers’ tools.
  • Able to perform risks/benefits trade-offs to compare suppliers of mechanical components.
  • Experience with generating and reviewing bills of material.
  • Must be persistent, details-oriented, and willing to dig deeper to figure out information of the designs needed to carry out the QVS projects, even when the designs were not sufficiently documented.
  • Must be disciplined in following established procedures/processes.
  • Must have technical writing skills to develop qualification plans and reports.
  • Ability to interface with oversea manufacturers when needed.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are required.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience working with FDA-regulated products is highly desired.
  • ISO, FDA or other regulated industry training and experience is highly desired.

Responsibilities

  • Design/modify highly sophisticated mechanical parts and assemblies using SolidWorks.
  • Simulation and analysis of various design alternatives using simulation packages (thermal and stress).
  • Perform stress analysis of circuit boards and the mechanical structures that enclose the boards to assure the integrity of the systems, considering the HW requirements such as shock and vibration.
  • Establish design modification to improve the quality of the mechanical components of existing products.
  • Modify existing mechanical components of ultrasound systems to reduce cost.
  • Review and modify existing detailed drawings to correct quality issues.
  • Generate bills of material.
  • Work with suppliers to ensure manufacturability of designs.

Benefits

  • Medical, Dental & Vision
  • Life & Company paid Disability
  • 4% automatic Company contribution to 401k
  • Fujifilm matches 50 cents for every dollar you contribute, up to 6% of your salary
  • Accrue up to 120 hours of PTO in your first year of employment
