About The Position

Canyon AeroConnect is a leading supplier of avionic-standard aircraft communications, navigation, and audio/intercom systems. Their products are widely adopted across civilian, paramilitary, and military applications, serving as a benchmark in tactical communication and audio equipment for various sectors including Air Ambulance, Law Enforcement, SAR, EMS, Electronic News Gathering, Military, and Marine. The company is seeking dynamic thinkers to join their team and contribute to high-tech avionics products. This role is for an individual who works with limited supervision, leads complex mechanical engineering assignments, product subsystems, or significant project work packages. They apply advanced engineering knowledge to define approaches, resolve technical issues, balance competing requirements, and guide work from concept through qualification and production support. This role involves regular coordination with customers, suppliers, the factory, and other engineering disciplines, as well as providing technical guidance to less experienced engineers. All individuals must meet minimum standards within 90 days.

Requirements

• Must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.
• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related engineering discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Typically at least 5 years of relevant professional experience.
• Advanced knowledge and application of mechanical engineering principles, concepts, practices, and tools.
• Understanding of the interaction between mechanical design, electrical hardware, systems requirements, manufacturing processes, verification, and product support.
• Ability to work on complex problems where analysis requires evaluation of multiple interacting factors and incomplete or conflicting information.
• Ability to develop and compare alternative solutions.
• Ability to lead significant design efforts.
• Ability to resolve technical issues that affect product performance, cost, schedule, or producibility.
• Ability to work with limited supervision.
• Ability to determine methods and procedures for new assignments.
• Ability to make sound technical decisions within established program and company constraints.
• Ability to escalate decisions that carry substantial business, safety, compliance, or program risk.
• Must be able to meet all minimum standards within 90 days.

Responsibilities

• Leads the design and analysis of complex mechanical systems, equipment, and packaging for avionics with a focus on manufacturability, performance, reliability, maintainability, and cost.
• Translates system and product requirements into mechanical design requirements, design approaches, analyses, and verification activities.
• Owns mechanical design work from concept through release, qualification, production transition, and support of legacy products.
• Conducts and reviews thermal, modal, material, and structural analyses using CFD/FEA software and engineering calculations. Validates assumptions, methods, and results.
• Develops and reviews 3D models, drawings, specifications, tolerance analyses, and GD&T in SolidWorks for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with company standards.
• Plans and coordinates prototype fabrication, design testing, verification activities, and technical readiness for design release.
• Leads mechanical design reviews, presents technical rationale, documents decisions, and ensures resulting actions are completed.
• Assesses architecture and hardware limitations and develops design trade studies that balance performance, reliability, producibility, cost, schedule, and risk.
• Provides technical support to the factory and suppliers, including resolution of complex manufacturing, assembly, inspection, and product performance issues.
• Leads root cause investigations and the development, verification, and implementation of corrective and preventive actions for in-service and production failures.
• Defines technical tasks, estimates effort, identifies dependencies and risks, and communicates progress and recovery plans to project and engineering leadership.
• Serves as a primary mechanical engineering contact for assigned projects when coordinating with customers, suppliers, and cross-functional teams.
• Reviews the work of less experienced engineers and provides coaching on engineering methods, analysis, documentation, and design practices.
• Captures and applies lessons learned and recommends improvements to engineering tools, standards, and processes.
• Sets SMART objectives and delivers results that directly support project and department commitments.
• Complies with and upholds Canyon AeroConnect SHE policies and standards.
• Complies with the Canyon AeroConnect Code of Business Conduct and Ethics.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the manager.
