About The Position

This role offers the opportunity to become the technical expert behind the compressors, motors, valves, and electromechanical technologies that power industry-leading HVAC products. The position involves investigating technological advancements, developing reliability plans, providing design input, creating test plans, and leading in HVAC components functional areas. The role also requires managing multiple projects, working with cross-functional teams, and ensuring performance, quality, cost, and schedule adherence. Responsibilities include conducting verification and reliability testing, ensuring supplier adherence to Lennox drawings and specifications, optimizing component design, supporting component implementation, performing supplier engineering capability evaluations, conducting characterization studies, prioritizing tasks, communicating results, leading specification development, coordinating verification testing, providing sustaining engineering support, performing statistical data analysis for risk assessments, and assisting Supplier Development teams.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Mechanical or Metallurgy Engineering.
  • 5+ years’ work experience in applying various motors, electro-mechanical or compression technology in HVAC system design.
  • In depth Knowledge in design or application of HVAC component qualification (compressor, motors, EEV, TXV or electro-mechanical).
  • Strong understanding of six sigma principles.
  • Knowledge of DFMEA, PFMEA, quality and reliability procedures is required.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing process.
  • Knowledge of failure analysis to identify root cause.
  • Exceptional problem-solving abilities with strong attention to detail.
  • Dynamic “can do” attitude with desire to work with a great team and products.
  • Skilled in facilitating meetings, making presentations and communicating with cross-functional teams.

Nice To Haves

  • M.S. Preferred.
  • Knowledge of metals (Aluminum, copper, steel) is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate technological advancements or new technologies in vapor compression system and provide conceptual or practical applications for these technologies within Lennox business units.
  • Develop reliability / design verification plans for each component / technology based on product design requirements and reliability goals.
  • Provide design input to improve component / product reliability and meet specifications when necessary.
  • Provide detailed test plans and test reports.
  • Provide Leadership in HVAC components functional area.
  • Manage multiple projects, work with cross functional teams and deliver on performance, quality, cost and schedule.
  • Conduct verification and reliability testing on Components and sub systems.
  • Ensure Lennox drawings and specifications are understood and followed by the suppliers in design and testing.
  • Optimize component design for performance, efficiency, reliability and cost.
  • Support the implementation of these components with documentation, test and reliability plans from supplier selection to Lennox production.
  • Perform supplier engineering capability evaluations and recommend supplier selection and improvements.
  • Conduct characterization studies to define the critical performance features, CTQ (Critical to Quality) and related requirement for process capability.
  • Prioritize and complete tasks to meet deadlines.
  • Interact with a wide variety of individuals and teams to communicate results.
  • Lead and provide guidance in the development of product and materials specifications for prototypes and verification testing protocols.
  • Coordinate verification testing activities.
  • Provide sustaining engineering support of existing products.
  • Prepare and coordinates verification and validation activities during investigation and design change activities.
  • Statistical data analysis to provide risk assessments of a design.
  • Assist Supplier Development teams in evaluation of processes to support critical characteristics and proposed changes to product.
