About The Position
Estes Express Lines is a leading LTL freight carrier that has been in business since 1931. The Mechanic Trainee is an entry-level position for someone with little to no experience. Trainees work under the guidance of experienced mechanics and/or Shop Management, assisting with minor repairs and related tasks. Requirements
- High school diploma or GED, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must be at least 17 years of age.
- Ability to use hand tools and test equipment under the direction of trained mechanics and/or Shop Management.
- Strength and stamina to work in awkward positions.
- Valid driver's license and acceptable motor vehicle record.
- Excellent verbal and written communication and listening skills.
- Self-starting, organized, and possesses a strong work ethic and good problem-solving skills.
- Ability to lift approximately 70 pounds or more if required by the essential functions of the job.
- Ability to comply with company policies, rules, procedures, and Code of Conduct.
- Ability to interact well with others and work independently or as part of a team.
- Ability to work under tight time constraints in a high-volume environment with multiple priorities.
- Ability to read, interpret, and comply with written information and documents, including safety rules, operations/procedure manuals, and maintenance instructions, with strong comprehension and concentration and the ability to meet deadlines.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and may be subject to random drug and/or alcohol tests and a criminal history background check.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States.
Responsibilities
- Interpret work orders and assist with minor repairs under the guidance of experienced mechanics.
- Assist with accessing the parts and tools needed to perform work.
- Assist with testing repaired equipment to verify proper performance and compliance with manufacturer specifications and legislated regulations.
- Maintain regular attendance.
- Perform other duties and tasks as assigned to meet operational, safety, and other needs.
