About The Position

We are looking for a Maya Pipeline Developer to join our Pipeline team and help build, maintain, and improve the tools that empower our artists throughout the VFX production pipeline. In this role, you will work closely with artists, Pipeline TDs, Production, and Software Engineers to develop efficient workflows, automate repetitive tasks, and support a stable, scalable production environment. The ideal candidate has a strong technical background, excellent problem-solving skills, and a passion for improving artist workflows through robust pipeline solutions.

Requirements

  • Professional experience developing production tools for Autodesk Maya within a VFX or Animation studio.
  • Strong proficiency in Python.
  • Experience with the Maya Python API (maya.cmds and OpenMaya).
  • Experience developing custom Maya tools, UI, and workflow automation.
  • Solid understanding of Git or other version control systems.
  • Familiarity with Linux environments and command-line tools.
  • Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced production environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with USD (Universal Scene Description).
  • Knowledge of PySide2/PySide6 or Qt for developing custom interfaces.
  • Experience with ShotGrid, ftrack, or other production management systems.
  • Familiarity with render management systems such as Deadline or Tractor.
  • Experience with asset management and publishing workflows.
  • Understanding of Alembic, FBX, OpenEXR, OCIO, and other common VFX technologies.
  • Experience working with GitLab, Jenkins, CI/CD pipelines, or automated testing.
  • Knowledge of Houdini, Nuke, Katana, or other DCC applications is considered an asset.
  • Experience supporting cloud-based or distributed production environments is a plus.
  • Experience in feature film or episodic VFX production.
  • Knowledge of C++ for Maya plugins.
  • Experience with USD pipelines and modern production workflows.
  • Familiarity with containerization technologies (Docker) and cloud infrastructure.
  • Understanding of animation, rigging, lighting, FX, or asset workflows within a VFX pipeline.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain production tools and pipeline solutions for Autodesk Maya.
  • Develop Python-based tools, plugins, and automation scripts to improve artist productivity.
  • Collaborate with artists, supervisors, and production teams to identify workflow improvements and technical solutions.
  • Integrate Maya with internal pipeline tools, asset management systems, and render farm infrastructure.
  • Support publishing, versioning, referencing, caching, and scene management workflows.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues affecting artists and production.
  • Develop and maintain APIs and tools that integrate with DCC applications and studio software.
  • Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code following studio development standards.
  • Participate in code reviews, testing, and continuous improvement of the pipeline.
  • Assist in maintaining cross-platform compatibility (Windows/Linux).
  • Support pipeline deployments, software updates, and production releases.
  • Work closely with Pipeline Developers and Software Engineers to improve pipeline architecture and scalability.
