About The Position

The Materials & Planning Analyst is a critical role responsible for planning, scheduling, and optimizing the end‑to‑end flow of material through a heavy manufacturing environment. This position goes beyond traditional materials planning by owning routing decisions, production sequencing, and machine assignment based on raw material characteristics, customer promise dates, and operational constraints. This role directly impacts on‑time delivery, manufacturing efficiency, and yield performance. Acting as a key link between Sales, Operations, and Supply Chain, the Analyst ensures production plans are executable, optimized, and aligned with overall business objectives.

Requirements

  • Production planning and detailed scheduling in a manufacturing environment
  • Strong understanding of routing logic, work centers, and capacity constraints
  • Experience sequencing work orders and assigning machines based on constraints
  • ERP/MRP system experience (SAP strongly preferred)
  • Data-driven problem solving and decision making
  • Strong cross‑functional communication skills
  • Ability to adapt quickly in a fast‑changing production environment
  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Engineering, Business, or related field (preferred)
  • 3+ years of experience in production planning, scheduling, or materials management
  • Experience in heavy manufacturing or process‑driven environments preferred

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced Excel skills
  • DYNA PROG experience
  • Heavy or process‑driven manufacturing background
  • Project management exposure
  • Lean manufacturing or continuous improvement experience

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain detailed production schedules aligned with customer demand, promise dates, and plant capacity
  • Determine optimal routing of material through multiple processing lines (straighteners, mills, finishing, etc.)
  • Sequence work orders and assign machines to maximize throughput while minimizing changeovers, downtime, and bottlenecks
  • Continuously adjust schedules based on production issues, material constraints, and shifting priorities
  • Own the strategy for how raw materials (hollows) are consumed and transformed through the manufacturing process
  • Optimize material utilization and yield by aligning routing decisions with metallurgical and process capabilities
  • Partner with Operations and Engineering to reduce scrap, rework, and planning‑driven inefficiencies
  • Analyze production results to refine planning logic and improve future outcomes
  • Partner with Sales and Customer Service to validate customer promise dates
  • Coordinate with Procurement to ensure timely availability of raw materials and mitigate supply risk
  • Work closely with Production Supervisors and shop floor teams to ensure schedules are realistic and executable
  • Act as an escalation point when demand, capacity, and material availability conflict
  • Use ERP/MRP and MES systems (SAP preferred) to create, manage, and track production orders
  • Maintain accurate planning data including routings, work centers, and lead times
  • Analyze production and planning data to identify constraints and improvement opportunities
  • Support advanced planning tools and system enhancements (e.g., DYNA PROG)
  • Drive standardization of planning processes and best practices
